Overview
Department of Food Engineering (FE) at Jashore University of Science & Technology was established in 2015 as the Department of Agro Product Processing Technology and later in 2025 the name of the department was changed to the Department of Food Engineering. FE Department started its undergraduate program on 03 October, 2015 under the faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology with mandate to ensure value addition of agro products through improved postharvest processing operations for the production of export quality processed agro and food products and hence to reduce the postharvest losses of agricultural products in Bangladesh. The department is also dynamic with changing activities and programs to meet the rapid technological developments in agro and food processing with allied applied sciences focusing on food processing and safety management. Currently department offers four-year undergraduate program B.Sc. in Food Engineering and Master of Science in Food Engineering where courses are designed in such a way so that students graduating from this department have a balance of theory and practical skills to prepare them for the highly competitive workplace. The course curriculum is continuously reviewed and updated with latest course contents. Food Engineering Department has well equipped class room and Lab facilities like: Food Processing Laboratory, Food Analytical Laboratory, and Food Safety and Microbiology Laboratory. Department of Food Engineering is flourishing day by day improving its educational and research base.
Objectives of the Department
- To meet the ever increasing demands of manpower equipped with comprehensive and cutting-edge knowledge in the field of Food Engineering and Technology.
- To train up the students through academic and professional orientations to take appropriate and realistic approaches in planning, operating, managing and developing the nation’s Agro and Food industries as well as other allied agencies.
- To ensure value addition of agro products through new food product design and development for production of export quality processed food products and hence to reduce the postharvest losses of agricultural products in Bangladesh.
